On July 16th, the State Department issued a 58 page report by the Commission on Unalienable Rights that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo established. I read and highly recommend it. (If you’re strapped for time, the conclusion on pages 54-58 offers valuable insights.) This is not a report on trendy social issues or entitlements, and it dares to say the United States is a force for good in the world. Armed with it, you can cue the outrage from the political Left.
This report focuses on the fundamental political, civil, and legal rights that undergird our republic, while also addressing areas where our country has not lived up to those ideals. The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, religious freedom, and the importance of property rights figure heavily in its language. It is a balanced but full-throated declaration of the values that make America exceptional and much-needed today.
